Special needs students receive donation of computers for education [1]

Government Middle School Ngele'ia received a gift of computers for special needs students, from the Chinese Embassy in Nuku'alofa.

Special needs students at the Government Middle School Ngele'ia have received a donation of computers and equipment  to help with their education.

The equipment was donated to the inclusive education class for special needs students, the school from the Chinese Embassy in Nuku'alofa on 9 August.

The Acting Chinese Ambassador, H.E Mr. Ruan Dewen handed the donation to the CEO of the Ministry of Education, Dr Tangikina Moimoi Skeen.

The supplies included two laptops, two computers, one keyboard, a home theater, as well as $1,780 to pay for their internet fees, and t-shirts.

Mr Ruan said the future of a country is based on good education, especially the education of children, because they are the future of a country, they are the future of Tonga. "The students of inclusive education class need more care. I know your officers and teachers here have paid a lot of attention and efforts, and as good friends to Tongan people, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga is more than willing to offer some help."

The Education CEO extended the Ministry's gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for the much needed donation to the inclusive education class, and said the students will now have access to vital resources for their education.

The CEO said ensuring equity and access to education for all Tongan children is a focus of the Ministry of Education.
 
Mr Ruan said that there are a few Chinese scholarships offered annually for Tongan students, who have certain level of Chinese Language. Up to the end of last year, China offered government scholarships to around 300 students.

“Graduates now work in different fields a and act as bridge of friendship between Tonga and China and today we have two from Chinese universities,” he said.
