Tonga advances to OFC Women’s Cup quarter-finals [1]

Mataliki, Tonga’s National Football Women’s team has advanced into the quarter-finals of the OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2022 in Suva.

This is after a 0-0 draw between Tahiti and Vanuatu in their final pool match at HFC Bank Stadium, on 20 July.

OFC reported that this ensured Tahiti's place in the quarter-finals.

"Tahiti will now face the runners-up in Group C on 24 July, while the result also means Tonga have qualified from Group A, ahead of Vanuatu as one of the highest-ranked third place teams on fair play points."

Vanuatu was however eliminated, after a 2-2 draw between Solomon Islands and New Caledonia on the same day.

Mataliki lost its first match against Samoa 2-0 and had a draw 1-1 with Cook Islands. 

Today also marks exactly one year until the start of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023.

Meanwhile, semi-finals will be on 27 July, with the final on 30 July.
