A Queen Salote College sixth former, 'Akanesi Kaufusi, has won the logo competition for the 38th Pacific Islands Forum meeting to be held in Tonga in October.

Her logo was one of dozens submitted in a local competition.

'Akanesi (16) from Pelehake, stated that her logo is, "an abstract design that represents and can be interpreted as signifying many things". Four wavy red ribbons are woven around a depiction of the Ha'amonga 'a Maui. She said the horizontal ribbons signify the waves of the Pacific and also represent the humpback whales that visit Tonga, or together they could represent the Heilala flower.

The winners received cash prizes at a function held at the International Dateline Hotel on August 17, attended by the Prime Minister Hon. Dr Feleti Sevele and other dignitaries.

In second place was Walter Holakeituai, a USP student from Fanga; and in third place was Tupou Siuta, a graphic designer for Tonga Print.

The logo competition was organised by Professional PR.
