Victim named in Veitongo road fatality [1]

Netane Nimo (26) is the driver who died from the road accident on Taufa‘ahau Road at Veitongo on Saturday night, 18 June.

Deputy Police Commissioner Tevita Vailea said today, a 37-year-old accused remains in police custody pending his court date.

He has been charged with reckless driving causing death.

Police had earlier alleged that the accident occurred when one car tried to overtake. This was just before midnight.

The driver of the overtaking car was the victim from Vaini, who sustained various injuries to his upper body. He was rushed to Vaiola hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. 

The other driver is the accused.

This is the fourth road death so far this year in Tonga.
