Road death at Veitongo [1]

A 26-year-old man died on Saturday night, 18 June from a road accident on Taufa‘ahau Road at Veitongo.
Tonga Police said today that two cars each driven by men with no passengers were racing, at high-speed heading in the eastward direction.
It is believed that the accident occurred when one car tried to overtake. This was just before midnight.
The driver of the overtaking car was the victim from Vaini, who sustained various injuries to his upper body.
He was rushed to Vaiola hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Meanwhile, the other driver who is in police custody has been charged with reckless driving causing death. Investigation continues.
Tonga Police reminded the public that “road safety is everyone’s responsibility”.
They said that the Police can be contacted on 740-1660 or 922 if anyone has any information regarding this accident or any information about any crime.
This is the fourth road death so far this year.
