Saudi Arabia's tourism minister makes flying visit to Tonga [1]

Prime Minister Hu'akavameiliku, Deputy Prime Minister Hon Poasi Tei, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Hon Fekita 'Utoikamanu, and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Tourism, Mr. Ahmed Aqeel AlKhateeb and his staff. 15 June 2022.

Saudi Arabia's Minister of Tourism, Mr Ahmed Aqeel AlKhateeb visited Tonga for a few hours on 15 June and met with Prime Hon. Hu’akavameiliku and Cabinet minister in Nuku'alofa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that hiis visit to Tonga was “to explore matters of common interest to the bilateral relations between the two countries and to pursue avenues to strengthen relations in all fields”.

Mr AlKhateeb is the concurrent Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Saudi Fund for Development.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kingdom of Tonga formally established diplomatic relations on 14 December, 2020 when a Joint Communiqué was signed by Permanent Representatives of both countries in New York.
