Tonga's quarantine and isolation days will be reduced to three-days, starting on 30 June as COVID-19 cases continue on a downward trend. Until then, the five days quarantine will apply to arrivals.
The Minister of Health Hon Dr Piukala said today that the next repatriation flights had been confirmed for 16 June and 30 June.
The Managed Isolation Quarantine (MIQ) period will be reduced to three-days starting on 30 June, he said.
Meanwhile, the passengers on the repatrition flights arriving today from New Zealand, Australia and Fiji will undergo five-days of MIQ. They were required to have only a RAT test before departure.
“If everything goes according to plan and we continue to see the rates we are seeing, then there is every possibility that restrictions will be lifted then."
However, despite the easing of restrictions preventative measures, including the wearing of masks, social distancing and washing of hands needs to continue, he said.
Passengers returning to ‘Eua will not need to have isolation and they can go straight home.
COVID cases
Tonga's COVID-19 positive cases continue to drop.
The Minister said the drop in positive cases reported daily in the last two weeks is encouraging.
"In the past three days average cases have been 10 with 15 reported in the last 24-hours. In the last five weeks less than 100 daily positive cases had been reported by the Ministry of Health."
He also confirmed there had been a total of 12 reported deaths related to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, vaccination rates stand at 98% for the 1st dose, 91% for the 2nd dose and 58% for booster shots. The vaccination for children between the ages of five and 11-years old is at 46%.
