A 50-year-old father and his 22-year-old daughter of Hofoa were charged with incest, appearing at the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court on July 30.

The Supreme Court recorded this as the second incest case for 2007. The first case was first cousins who pleaded guilty and were given a suspended sentence of two years in March.

The father is charged with one count of incest while the daughter is charged with two counts of incest.

The Crown's case against the father is that he knew it was his daughter but still he committed carnal knowledge on or about September 4, 2004 at Hofoa.

The daughter is charged with two counts of incest and is alleged that she consented to the carnal knowledge knowing it was her father. The Crown's case is against two alleged incidences on September 4, 2004 and on June 4, 2006.

Crown Prosecutor Sione Sisifa told the court that he would call five witnesses to give evidence during the trial.

The trial will be completed later in the week. Masao Paasi represents the father while the daughter is represented by Lesina Tonga.
