'Alamoni Makafilia Ika who is currently serving a 16-years prison sentence for various serious offences, including the shooting at the Veitongo petrol station and armed robberies, was sentenced to 11-months for a 2007 offence.

Hon. Mr Justice Cooper sentenced him on 13 April, at the Supreme Court in Nuku'alofa.

This was an old case as it was only noticed last year that his bench warrant for this offence had not been executed.

The prisoner pleaded guilty to the two counts of housebreaking and theft committed on the night 1 December 2007.

At around 11:00pm, he broke into Tau'olunga Computer shop in Fasi. He removed a security cover to a window and then the lourves covering that window.
He stole two iPods, a CD rack and an Apple remote control. The value of those goods was $1,660.

He was caught by the police. The details of how that happened had not been made available, said the judge.

They recovered the most valuable items, the iPods.

"His pre-sentence report sets out his antecedent history."

The judge said on 19 May 2006, the prisoner was sentenced to 12-month's imprisonment for unlawful entry into a building by night. The final three-months were suspended for one-year.

He then committed a further two offences.

In February 2007 an offence described in the report as 'found by night', for which he was fined $300.

The author of the pre-sentence report noted that put him in breach of the sentence imposed in May 2006. She also described him as being at a very high risk of reoffending.

In 2012, he was sentenced to seven-years' imprisonment for conspiracy to commit armed robbery. On 25 February 2020, he was sentenced to 16-year's imprisonment for armed robbery, grievous bodily harm and serious arson.

He was then sentenced to 11-months imprisonment, including three-months for breaching his sentence in 2006.

The judge said given the substantial terms he was already serving, he did not think to add to his term of 16-years.

The 11-months imprisonment was ordered to run concurrent to the term he is currently serving.
