Jury acquits 75 year old man of sedition [1]

A jury has found Sione Halafuka Vea (75) not guilty of the charge sedition at the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court today, July 26.

The jury of five men and two women delivered their verdict in court just after 2pm after deliberating in closed chambers for over an hour.

The accused who was charged with one count of sedition relating to a speech he made at Pangai Si'i on November 15, 2006 was then free to go.

The trial began on Monday, July 23 with prosecutor Peter Little appearing for the Crown and Sifa Tu'utafaiva as defence counsel.
