The new Ma’ufanga Health Clinic, funded by Japan, was officially opened last Thursday, April 14, by Lord Fakafanua and the Japanese Ambassador HE Mr Kensaku Munenaga.
The new clinic replaces the old one, which had deteriorated over the years due to cyclones, and adequate treatment and services could not be provided there.
Ambassador HE Munenaga said the new clinic was constructed under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP).
The GGP is a grant scheme that meets various basic needs, such as water, health, and education, at the grassroots level.
HE Munenaga said this project contributed to easing the burden on the staff of the Ministry of Health.
“Under the current critical circumstance, I believe this clinic could play a good role in confronting all public health challenges.”
“I think that the Ministry of Health has been doing very well under the unprecedented difficult situation, in spite of limited resources and capacity in our health system.”
The ceremony was attended by Acting Prime Minister Hon Poasi Tei, Minister of Health Hon Dr Saia Piukala, other government ministers and Ministry of Health staff.
The new clinic is located in Houmakelikau.
