A formal inquest into the deaths of a New Zealand couple on the weekend, whose bodies were found at ‘Utungake in Vava’u on Saturday, April 2, were ruled to be caused by electrocution and likely accidental, confirmed Tonga Police today.

The bodies of Ben Rocky Neill (47) and his wife, Rochelle Neill (48) were found at a resort in the village.

Deputy Police Commissioner Community Assurance, Tēvita Vailea said the police had responded to a report from the village of 'Utungake.

“The couple were believed to have lived by themselves at the resort.”

The bodies were partially decomposed and were buried immediately after the inquest on the advice of a medical doctor.

Tonga Police liaised with the New Zealand High Commission in Tonga to locate the couple’s next of kin and to establish point of contact with their families in New Zealand.

Tonga Police requested that members of the public in Vava’u who may have any information on this matter should contact Tonga Police on phone number 740-1660 or 922.
