Households in tsunami damaged Kanokupolu village, have received a donation of 55 rubbish bins valued at $16,000, from the Talitha Project, to help in the clean-up operations.

Founder Vanessa Heleta said today, that when they were distributing hygiene kits and tarpaulins to households last month, she noticed there were lots of flies in the village.

“I was worried that there could be a potential risk of typhoid or other similar disease and was worried about the well being of the kids.”

She said they had managed to get some funding from donors who were helping during this difficult time. They bought the bins, which cost around $16,000 pa’anga.

“We delivered it to the village on March 8 to commemorate International Women's Day with the women of Kanokupolu and their town officer Metui Taukei'aho,” said Vanessa.
