Three repatriation flights are scheduled to arrive in Tonga Tuesday, February 15, from New Zealand, Fiji, and Australia, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for MEIDECC, Hon. Poasi Tei, confirmed on Feb.14.
"The repatriation flight from New Zealand is due to arrive at 12:35pm, one from Fiji at 4:00pm, and another from Australia at 5:10pm."
MEIDECC CEO Paula Ma'u confirmed to Matangi Tonga this afternoon the repatriation flights would be departing from the cities of Auckland, Nadi, and Brisbane.
The number of passengers allowed to return will be under 200 in total.
However, Hon. Tei said the total number will depend on the passengers COVID-19 test results before they are allowed onto their respective flights.
"Passengers are still undergoing COVID-19 tests. Some passengers who were booked on the repatriation list have already tested positive to the virus and will not be on these flights."
The repatriated passengers will be quarantined at the Tanoa Hotel in Nuku'alofa.
The last repatriation flight to Tonga was from New Zealand on 27 October 2021, with 215 passengers.
