A group of young Chinese artists gave an impressive acrobatic performance in Nuku'alofa last evening to a cheering crowd, at a royal performance for HM King George V.
The group consisted of five acrobat performers, one magician and two musicians. The acrobats performed to Chinese folk music.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy, in Nuku'alofa, said that Chinese acrobatics and folk music has a tradition of thousands of years and has flourished and matured to a state of advanced combination of art and folk dancing. Acrobatics and folk music are deemed a national treasure in China, and enjoyed worldwide.
This event was organised with the hope that Tonga and the Chinese people may take this opportunity to get a better understanding of each other's culture and life.
Two more performances by the group were planned on June 8-9 at the 'Api Fo'ou College Hall before they depart on June 11.
The Chinese Embassy, Nuku'alofa and the Tonga Visitors Bureau are the sponsors of this event with the Tonga Chinese Federation as the main organiser.
