Petroleum prices decrease, while gas increases [1]

Petrol, kerosene, and diesel prices have decreased for September - October starting today, September 20, as approved by the Tonga Competent Authority.
The wholesale price for petrol, kerosene and diesel will decrease by 4.11 seniti/litre, 1.99 seniti/litre and 2.00 seniti/litre respectively. All price changes include consumption tax.
On Tongatapu, the new retail price for petrol, kerosene, and diesel is 296.84, 197.98, and 283.89 seniti/litre respectively.
Comparing the August month average prices with July:
- Crude oil (Dated Brent) was down by USD 3.78/bbl (5.1%);
- Petrol was down by USD 4.37/bbl (5.1%);
- Kerosene was down by USD 3.21/bbl (4.2%); and
- Diesel was down by USD 3.34/bbl (4.2%).
The freight rate significantly increased (up by 54.7%) supported by increasing vaccination rates which has partially offset some of the decrease in Singapore prices. While, the Tongan Pa’anga has been steady. Those factors combined resulted in a decrease in local retail prices for all products.
LPG price increases
The LPG price for September – December has increased starting today September 20, approved by the Tonga Competent Authority.
The quarterly LPG price in Tongatapu and Vava'u have increased by TOP 0.12 seniti/kg and TOP 0.11 seniti/kg respectively. All price changes include consumption tax.
The new LPG retail price is 4.28/kg in Tongatapu, 4.34/kg in Vava’u, 5.46/kg in Ha’apai, 5.32/kg in ‘Eua, and 6.62/kg in Niuatoputapu.
