The repatriation flight from Vanuatu that was due to arrive today with around 14 passengers was cancelled due to aircraft technical difficulties, confirmed Chief Medical Public Health Officer, Dr Reynold ‘Ofanoa today.
“We received the confirmation this morning that the flight would not be coming in. And we will be advised of the rescheduled date.”
“It hasn’t been confirmed if it will be this weekend or next weekend.”
The flight was one of three repatriation flights that were scheduled for today. However, the flight from New Zealand was postponed last week due to the COVID-19 delta outbreak there, and American Samoa also postponed the flight to Tonga from Pago Pago.
Currently, only cargo flights are coming in to Tonga from New Zealand weekly and passengers are able to leave the kingdom on these flights.
Meanwhile, New Zealand remains in Level 4 lockdown until August 27, due to the COVID-19 delta outbreak.
