Fiji Covid death toll 317, with new cases reported [1]

Fiji has recorded 603 new COVID-19 cases over 24-hours ending at 8:00am on August 9. There were 18-new deaths due to the virus.
The Pacific island's Ministry of Health and Medical Services said these deaths were from August 4-9. All had not been vaccinated, with the eldest two men aged 88 and the youngest, a 37-year-old woman.
There have been a total of 37,512 cases during the outbreak that started in April this year, with a total of 37,582 cases since the first case was reported in March 2020.
There have been 12,677 recoveries.
Hospitalisations/vaccinations
The Ministry reported that there are currently 289 COVID-19 patients in hospital.
Fifty-eight patients were admitted to the Lautoka Hospital, 68 patients at the FEMAT field hospital, and 163 admitted at CWM hospital, St Giles and Makoi.
Sixty-six patients have been considered to be in severe condition, and six are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, vaccinations are continuing. Some 512, 282 adults in Fiji have received their first dose of the vaccine and 178,606 have received their second doses, as of August 8.
This means that 87.3% of the target population has received at least one dose, 30.4% are now fully vaccinated nationwide, said the Ministry.
