More arrests in Vava’u cocaine haul [1]

More arrests have been made by in relation to the cocaine haul that washed up in Vava'u last week.

Matangi Tonga understands today the latest arrests included that of a foreign national in Tonga.

Earlier, on July 29, five people were arrested by the Tonga Police Drugs Enforcement Taskforce, during raids at three residences, two in Ha'alaufuli and 'Utulangivaka in Vava’u and a third in Tongatapu.

Five more packets of cocaine were seized at the residence in Ha'alaufuli.

This made a total of 11 cocaine packets, including the first six handed over to Police, after being washed up on the beaches at Höleva and Ha’alaufuli. The street value was estimated at over TOP$4 million.

Meanwhile, an update is expected to be released by Tonga Police soon on the new developments.
