2,319 people receive second COVID-19 vaccine dose [1]

2,319 people have received their second dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as at this morning, July 1, confirmed the Tonga Ministry of Health.

Since the second dose vaccine program started last week on 24 June, the daily vaccination average is 464 people per day.

The Ministry said frontliners continued to receive their second doses, with 38% covered to date.

The vaccination teams also reported no vaccine wastage and no extreme allergic reactions since the start of the second dose inoculations.

Previously, 28,667 people have been inoculated with the first dose in Tonga.

The Ministry of Health is hoping to receive more COVID-19 vaccines for the remainder of the target (70%) population by as early as August.
