Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Wednesday, June 16, 2021 - 19:29

Toakase Kau (31) was sentenced to six-months imprisonment for possession of 0.92 grams of methamphetamine and 0.94 grams of cannabis.

Hon Mr Justice Cooper sentenced the accused on June 10, after she pleadied guilty at the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court.

The offending was on November 30, 2020 when police, acting on information searched a car parked outside the Registry Office in Nuku'alofa. The defendant was a passenger in this car.

The drugs were seized following the search.

The judge, bearing in mind the weight of drugs found in this case and guilty plea, sentenced her to six-months, which was fully suspended for two-years on conditions.

This includes 60-hours community service and she must also attend the Drugs Rehabilitation Course as directed.

“Any breach of that part of the sentence or any failure to comply with probation or carry out all the hours of the community service and she will be re-sentenced. I reserve the case to myself,” ordered the judge.
