China provides TOP$24million to Tonga [1]

Prime Minister Hon Dr Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa and Chinese Ambassador HE Cao Xiaolin, Nuku'alofa. 11 June 2021.

China has provided RMB 70 million (about $24.5 million pa'anga) to Tonga under an agreement on economic and technical cooperation, to fund priority projects agreed to by both governments.

Prime Minister Hon Rev. Dr Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa and China’s Ambassador to Tonga HE Cao Xiaolin signed the agreement on 11 June.

China has provided funds for other projects in Tonga including the St George Government Building, Tonga High School construction, and the Fa’onelua Convention Centre.

Tonga established diplomatic relations with China in 1998.
