Repatriates test negative for COVID-19 [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Wednesday, June 9, 2021 - 15:21.  Updated on Thursday, June 10, 2021 - 09:20.

The 248 passengers repatriated from New Zealand and Australia on 2 and 3 June respectively, tested negative for COVID-19, confirmed Ministry of Health CEO, Dr Siale ‘Akau’ola.

All passengers had also tested negative to COVID-19 prior to boarding the repatriation flights.

They will be tested again for the final time at the end of their 21-day quarantine before they are released from the Tanoa Hotel and Makeke Camp.

Meanwhile, MEIDECC CEO Paula Ma’u told Matangi Tonga this morning that the next repatriation flights are planned for 30 June from Auckland and Brisbane again, then every 28 days as endorsed by Cabinet.

No date has been set on a repatriation flight from Fiji due to the rise in COVID-19 cases. The Ministry of Health is monitoring the situation in Fiji.
