Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Wednesday, June 9, 2021 - 16:27

Vava'u islands. 9 June 2021.

A search for ‘Isime’eli Loloma (48) who went missing while diving for sea cucumbers in Vava'u on June 1, has been suspended.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Tevita Vailea in Nuku’alofa said this morning there had been no sight of him.

He said after the search last weekend his family and the Police in Neiafu agreed to suspend the search.

'Isime'eli was one of three men who went out on small boat to dive for sea cucumbers in an area situated southeast of Neiafu.

It was reported that when the other two other divers surfaced they saw no sight of ‘Isime’eli. They then contacted another fishing vessel for help. Neiafu Police was later informed.

A search was carried out but was halted temporarily at times due to bad weather. The search continued over the weekend, with nothing found, said the Deputy Commissioner.

‘Isime’eli came from Kameli in Neiafu.
