Fotua Government Primary School students won the annual Ha’apai soroban competition held last Thursday, 27 May, the first of district competitions this year.

Second place was awarded to GPS Faleloa while GPS Pangai placed third.

Over 70 students from five primary schools in classes 3, 4 and 5 took part in written, oral, and flash examinations.

The next district competition will be held on 'Eua on June 8, followed by three districts on Tongatapu in the same week.

Winners from each district will take part in a national competition to be held in November.

District soroban competitions in Tonga have been held annually since 2010, co-hosted by the Embassy of Japan and the Ministry of Education.
