Rifles seized, 7 arrests for drug offences [1]

Tonga Police Drugs Enforcement Taskforce seized two rifles, cannabis and drugs utensils and arrested seven people from four different locations in Tongatapu last week.
Two unlicensed firearms, including a .22 long rifle and an air operated long rifle, were seized along with 4.56 grams of cannabis and drug utensils, from different locations including Ha‘ateiho, Puke, Mataika and Houmakelikao. The arrests were made between 18-21 May 2021.
Among those arrested were six men and one woman aged 18 to 41 years.
Criminal charges for illicit drugs and firearms have been laid and all seven are to appear in court at a later date.
Police stated, “The Police Drugs Enforcement Taskforce continues to double down on targeting drug dealers and holding them to account and removing drugs from our communities to minimize the harmful effect they have on our people.
