First batch of COVID-19 vaccine nearly finished [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Wednesday, May 26, 2021 - 19:07

With 28,150 people vaccinated to date, only 40 vials (about 400 doses) of the COVID-19 vaccine remain to be administered before the batch expires on 31 May, confirmed the Ministry of Health today.

At least 29,151 people have registered for the vaccine so far. Those who have not yet presented themselves at the vaccination centres for their shots might miss out on the first round, as the vaccine is expected to be finished by the end of the week.

Each COVID-19 vaccine vial contains around 10-12 doses according to Health officials earlier this year. This means that less than 480 doses remain to be used.

The Ministry confirmed there had been no vaccine wasted so far. No extreme allergic reactions had been reported, and there had been no reported deaths linked to the COVID-19 vaccine.

People aged 30 years and above or aged 18 years and above with an NCDs or a disability, are eligible for the vaccine.
