Two repatriation flights planned for June [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Wednesday, May 12, 2021 - 18:34

Repatriation flight from New Zealand at Fua'amotu International Airport. 31 March 2021.

Two repatriation flights are planned for June from Auckland, New Zealand, and Brisbane, Australia, confirmed MEIDECC CEO Paula Ma’u today.

The flight from Auckland is scheduled to arrive on 2 June, while the flight from Brisbane, will arrive on 3 June.

Paula said the Brisbane flight is the first under Australia’s Pacific Flight Program and is not chartered by the employers of seasonal workers, as was the case for previous flights.

Meanwhile, the repatriation flight from Fiji that was planned for the first week of June was not confirmed, due to the COVID-19 situation in the country.

Fiji recorded 12 new COVID-19 cases in the community yesterday with health officials looking at possibly locking down the main island of Viti Levu to stop the virus from spreading.
