Plans for repatriated passengers to start paying for their quarantine starting on 28 July are underway, said MEIDECC CEO Paula Ma’u today.
The quarantine price may vary depending on the facility, such as the Tanoa Hotel in Nuku’alofa, or Makeke Camp in Vaini.
“Details are being worked out for the Committee to have a look at before submitting it to Cabinet for finalization,” said Paula.
“We are hoping to do this soon so that we can provide this detailed information.”
He said the repatriation flights on June 2, 3, and 30 could be the last for free quarantine for Tongans.
Non-Tongans are already paying for their quarantine.
Paula said it costs the government about TOP$4,000 per person for 21 days quarantine.
Around 2,700 people are currently on the government's repatriation registration list.
