Appeal Court first session on March 22 [1]

The first session of Tonga's Court of Appeal this year will sit for two-days starting on March 22, and will include two judges appearing via audio visual link from abroad.
Lord President Whitten will sit from Nuku'alofa, while Hon. Justice Randerson and Hon. Justice Moore appear via AVL.
This format has been used since last year's sessions due to the border closures from the COVID-19 pandemic.
There are five appeals including two land cases and three criminal.
The land appeals are:
- Sione and Sitiveni Kaufusi v Lord Ma'afu and Minister of Lands;
- Ka’ili Tu’alau v Kalusa Tu'alau and Minister of Lands.
Criminal appeals are from
- Tevita Valikoula v Attorney General;
- Attorney General v Vaipulu Ikamanu;
- Attorney General v Viliami Talivakaola.
A second appeal session is expected to be held later in the year.
