'Apifo'ou and Liahona lead Inter-college medal tally [1]

After the first day of the Inter College Sports, 'Apifo'ou College and Liahona High School share top spot of the medal tally, with five medals each.
At the first medal presentation yesterday evening, Liahona High School was awarded a gold medal in the Open Girls 1500m run; two silver medals in the Intermediate Girls high jump and the Junior Girls long jump; and two bronze medals in the open boys shot put and Open Girls discus.
'Apifo'ou College on was awarded a gold and a bronze medal in the Senior Boys 1500m run; a silver in the Senior Girls 1500m; and two bronze medals in the intermediate Girls high jump and 1500m run.
Second in the medal tally was Vava'u High school with four medals, by Tupou College and 'Eua High school with three medals each.
The three-day event includes 10 track events and seven field events.
The track events include 3,000m, 1,500m, 800m, 400m, 200m, 100m, 4x400m relay, 4x100m relay, single hurdles and the long hurdles. The field events include shot put, javelin, long jump, high jump, triple jump, discus throwing and the pole vault.
Today's events kicked off with the 800m running for the midget, junior, intermediate, open and senior girls and boys grades, while other field events such as the long jump, high jump, discus throwing and pole vault was also held on the field.
Medals will be awarded to the winners of each event on a daily basis and the sports competition will be concluded on Friday April 13.
