Tonga's high school and middle school sports teams paraded this morning at the opening of the 60th annual Inter-College Sports competition at the Teufaiva Outdoor Stadium, cheered on by thousands of student supporters.

This year's sports competition is a national event, with the participation for the first time of athletes from the Niuafo'ou High School, on Tonga's most northern island.

A total of 23 schools from throughout Tonga will be competing in sports events until Friday April 13.

The guest of honor at this morning opening ceremony was Princess Angelika Latufuipeka, and the welcoming speech was made by the Minister of Education, Hon. Rev Dr Tevita Hala Falefau.
