A 23-year-old soldier who was on-duty at the Makeke Quarantine Facility in Vaini was arrested with cannabis on Monday, January 25.

Police acted upon a request from His Majesty’s Armed Forces (HMAF) to conduct a search of the Taliai Military Camp in Fua’amotu for illicit drugs.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Tevita Vailea said today, the taskforce conducted the search at the camp and found drug utensils.

This led to the arrest of the on-duty soldier at Makeke where 1.91 grams of cannabis was seized.

The accused has been charged with possession of illicit drugs.

He was remanded in police custody to appear at the Magistrate's Court on a later date.
