Petrol prices increase in New Year [1]

The petroleum prices for January-February continue to increase effective January 18, as approved Tonga's Competent Authority.
The wholesale price increased by 11.68, 14.48 and 13.88 seniti/litre for petrol, kerosene and diesel respectively.
While, the retail prices for petrol, kerosene, and diesel on Tongatapu is at 254.21, 156.97 and 255.27 seniti/litre respectively.
Tonga's Competent Authority stated that crude oil prices had continued tracking upward in December last year.
Comparing the December average prices with November:
- Crude oil (Dated Brent) was up by USD 6.27/bbl (14.3%);
- Petrol was up by USD 6.74/bbl (14.4%);
- Kerosene was up by USD 8.22/bbl (18%);
- Diesel was up by USD 7.87/bbl (16.6%).
The freight rate also increased by 14.4%, while the Tongan Pa’anga remained the stable.
These combined factors resulted in the increase in the local retail prices for all products.
