NZ repatriates test negative to CoViD-19 [1]

The Tonga Police Brass Band plays for quarantined guests at the Tanoa Hotel, Nuku'alofa on 22 December 2020.

The 129 repatriates from Auckland have tested negative for CoViD-19 and were released from quarantine this afternoon.

Chief Medical Officer (Public Health) Dr Reynold 'Ofanoa said, the passengers tested negative in their final test.

They will now spend a further seven days in home quarantine.

The other 157 repatriates from Fiji also had their final CoViD-19 test and he said the results would be available tomorrow, December 24.

The 22-navy crew remained in quarantine on the new patrol boat VOEA Ngahau Siliva, at the Nuku’alofa harbour.

The Tonga Police Brass Band performed Christmas carols for passengers who were in quarantine yesterday, 22 December.

Meanwhile, 3,700 people on the government’s register are awaiting repatriation, MEIDECC CEO Paula Ma’u confirmed this afternoon.

A total of 1,251 people were repatriated to Tonga this year.

The next repatriation flight for the new year is planned for the second week of January.
