Tonga's Declaration of a State of Emergency has been extended from 8:00pm today 21 December 2020 to 8:00pm 18 January 2021, including the National CoViD-19 Restrictions with changes.

The national night-time curfew has been lifted for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day and shortened for National Prayer Week 2021 from 12:00am (midnight) to 3:00am, the Prime Minister's Office announced today. 

The night-time curfew (apart from the changes above) shall apply from 12:00am (midnight) to 5:00am effective from 8:00pm 21 December 2020, to 8:00pm 18 January 2021, and enforced by the Tonga Police, His Majesty's Armed Forces and relevant authorised officers.

Other key restrictions include:

• All activities and gatherings in Tonga shall not exceed a total of 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors, except for religious services and education institutions.
• Funeral gatherings are restricted to 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors with an authorized officer to be present throughout.
• comply with social distancing (keeping 1.5m from another other person at all times), and
• observe personal hand hygiene and follow all Public Health Advisories issued by the Ministry of Health in relation to CoViD-19

Tonga Police and His Majesty’s Armed Forces and any authorized officers for the purposes of securing public safety and maintenance of public health shall have the power to enforce these directions.
