A repeated drug offender Vainikolo Selu has been jailed for two-years nine-months at Hu'atolitoli Prison.

Justice Langi on December 14 sentenced him to one-year nine-months for possession of 0.10 grams of methamphetamine, after pleading guilty.

This was in addition, to one-year imprisonment activated, after he breached his suspended sentence from another offence. 

The Court heard on April 12 this year, Tonga Police received reliable information that the accused transported illicit drugs in his vehicle and he was at a bush allotment in Tokomololo. 

Police went to the bush allotment and found the accused. They noticed an empty bottle beside him and that something was hidden inside the bottle's wrapping.

They tore the wrapping and discovered two packets of methamphetamine. 

The accused has a number of previous convictions for drug-related offences. 

The judge said it is obvious from his last offending that he has no regard for the laws of this country. 

He was released from prison in February this year and in April he was caught again doing the exact same thing.

"I take this to mean that for you, the benefits of committing drug-related offences far outweigh the punishment. I have a duty to protect the community from repeat offenders like yourself who think you will just do your time and come out and do the same thing again."

The judge then sentenced him to a total of two-years nine-months imprisonment. 

The illicit drug was ordered to be destroyed.
