No funds for printing Royal Commission's report on Royal Tongan Airlines [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 15:30.  Updated on Thursday, May 1, 2014 - 19:43.

Although the long-awaited report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the operation of the Royal Tongan Airlines was approved by the Privy Council on April 8 for release to the public, the report can't be printed until government makes funds available.

According to an officer from the Prime Minister's office the report was to be available for sale at $100 pa'anga per copy from the Crown Law Department.

However, an officer at the Crown Law Office said that copies would be made available for sale once a fund was allocated for the printing of the report.

The Royal Commission of Inquiry was established by the Tongan Government in early November of last year with the intention of looking into Royal Tongan Airline operations.

The two commissioners are the Minister of Police Hon Clive Edwards and a Chinese businessman Fred Wang. Assisting them as consultants were the Solicitor General '‘Alisi Taumoepeau, and Wayne Madden, the former General Manager of Tonga Investments Ltd, and Linda Folaumoetu'i as secretary.
