China donates 50 solar street lights [1]

Chinese Ambassador to Tonga HE Cao Xiaolin and Prime Minister Hon Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa at the handover ceremony, Fa'onelua Convention Centre, Nuku'alofa. 28 October 2020.

Fifty solar street lights were donated to Tonga by China’s Dongguan Municipality, during a signing ceremony at Fa’onelua Convention Centre today.

China’s Ambassador, HE Cao Xiaolin and Prime Minister Hon Dr Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa signed the handover and exchanged documents.

The Chief Secretary and Secretary to Cabinet, Edgar Cocker thanked China for their generous assistance, during the short event. “This generous assistance will make a difference and improve the livelihood of people,” he said.

The solar street lights are expected to be distributed to be used in remote areas in Tonga.
