Sitela Fungavaka (76) was the passenger who died after the vehicle she was travelling in collided with another vehicle at Talafo’ou, on October 25.

A 21-year-old man, the driver of the other vehicle, has been charged with reckless driving causing death.

Police reported that at 4:00pm the accused was speeding on Hala Tahi at Talafo'ou, when he lost control, swerved and crashed into a car that was heading from the opposite direction.

This car on the opposite direction was driven by a man from Holonga with the victim, as his passenger.

The victim sustained serious injuries and passed away at the Vaiola Hospital on that same night.

The accused from Vaini remains in police custody as investigation continues. 

This is the sixth road fatality this year.
