Five people have been arrested and charged with offences in relation to possession of methamphetamine and cannabis in four different locations in Tongatapu.

The Drug Enforcement Taskforce made the arrests between October 9-14 at four different homes in Ha’akame and Fasi.

Police seized 1.37 grams of methamphetamine, 24.74 grams of cannabis and drug utensils.

Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Tevita Vailea said today, this is an ongoing operation targeting drug dealers and suppliers.

The four men and one woman between the ages of 20 to 46 years are charged with possession of the illicit drugs. They are expected to appear at the Magistrate's Court, on a later date. 

He said that Tonga Police are committed towards disrupting and detecting the supply of drugs and hold those responsible to account.

“We encourage anyone who have concerns about drugs related activity in their neighborhood or may have information about drug related offending to contact police at 7401660,” said the Acting Deputy Police Commissioner.
