Sangstar Saulala, Chairman of the Tonga Rugby Union TRU, and manager and main presenter of the Oceania Broadcasting Network OBN.

Sangstar Saulala, the chairman of the Tonga Rugby Union, and the manager and the main presenter of the Oceania Broadcasting Network OBN was arrested on Thursday evening, February 22 and charged with crimes relating to the riot of 16/11.

The Acting Police Commander, Taniela Faletau confirmed this morning that Sangstar had been charged with two counts of sedition, and unlawful assembly and riot.

Taniela said that Sangstar spent Thursday in prison but was released on Friday morning, February 23 on a bail condition of two sureties, at $1,000 pa'anga each and $2,000 pa'anga guaranteed by himself.

The OBN television ceased broadcasting following the November 16 riots of last year. The sequence of protest marches that took place on November 16 started off with a protest march from the OBN TV station to Pangai Si'i in the morning, against a notice from their landlord, the king, telling them to vacate his property.
