Police rescue fishermen in Tongatapu waters [1]

Five men were rescued by Police Search and Rescue in two separate calls for assistance in Tongatapu waters, due to engine failure.
Acting Deputy Commissioner ‘Atunaisa Taumoepeau said today, on July 1 at around 2:00am the 'Alotolu Police Search and Rescue boat responded to a call for assistance.
This was from two men who were on a fishing boat near Pangaimotu Island. Their boat engine had broken down.
Polo'a Island
On June 26, the Search and Rescue boat had first responded to a call for assistance and rescue, at around 8:50pm.
Three fishermen who were out fishing on a seven-meter timber boat around Polo’a Island, some 6km from Nuku'alofa, experienced engine failure.
All of the men rescued were in good health and both boats had been towed back to the capital, he said.
None of the boats in distress had carried safety gear on board.
“We emphasize the importance of taking precautions and safety measures before embarking on any sea voyages. Make sure you have communication means, life jackets, emergency flares and a beacon,” said the A/Deputy Commissioner.
