The newly reformed rugby league body in a press statement on May 27, said it is dedicated to promoting the growth of the rugby league game in Tonga.

Its mission includes aiming to gain membership in the IRL and be recognised as the governing rugby league body in Tonga. While, assisting the development of its member clubs and create pathways for local players to access international opportunities.

It will also provide a platform for Woolf and his team to represent Tonga at the Rugby League World Cup in 2021.

TMTRL believed that the success of Tonga's national team in the international stage is crucial to the success of our local clubs and players.

It is therefore committed to supporting the players who delivered those wins under the coaching of Woolf; with the hope that they continue to take this already extraordinary legacy to greater heights at the next World Cup.
