Woman PR charged and released on bail [1]

Lepolo Taunisila the Niua's People Representative to the Tongan Parliament has been released on bail this afternoon after being arrested on Wednesday, January 24.

A reliable source confirmed today, that Lepolo was released on a $2,000 pa'anga bail with two sureties of $1,000 pa'anga each at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court. She has been charged but the nature of the charges are unconfirmed.

Lepolo was arrested at about 5pm on Wednesday January 24 and had been detained in police custody up to this afternoon.

She is the third people's representative to have been arrested and detained in police custody in connection with the investigations into the violent riots that destroyed much of Nuku'alofa on November 16.

Others arrested were Tongatapu no. 2 People's Representative 'Isileli Pulu who was first arrested on January 10th and is still detained in police custody, and 'Akilisi Pohiva the Tongatapu no. 1 People's Representative who was arrested on January 17 and released on bail on January 19.

Lepolo is the only woman among the nine People's Representatives in the Tongan Legislature.
