12 arrested in illicit drug busts [1]

Twelve people have been arrested after the seizure of methamphetamine and cannabis at nine different locations in Tongatapu.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Tevita Vailea said today, police seized 20.88 grams of methamphetamine, 272.96 grams of cannabis and drug utensils.
The Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce from April 27 to May 7 seized the drugs at different homes in Kolofo’ou, Kolomotu’a, Ma’ufanga, Kapeta, Vaini, Mataika, Patangata and Fanga.
One person was arrested in a vehicle on Vaha’akolo Road at Tofoa.
Nine men and three women aged 20-41 have been charged with possession of the illicit drugs. They are expected to appear at the Fasi Magistrate’s Court on a date to be confirmed.
The A/Deputy Commissioner said those seeking to profit from the harm these drugs cause can expect to be targeted by Police.
“The Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce will continue to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs that negatively impact our communities.
“This is a significant seizure, which has a potential to cause serious harm to our local community. There is no denying the detrimental impact illicit drugs has on our people’s lives."
