King to open Parliament live stream [1]

King Tupou VI will open the Legislative Assembly of Tonga on Thursday morning, May 7 via live stream. The House must pass the national budget before July 1.

The King is expected to deliver his royal address from the Royal Palace in Nuku’alofa via a live stream feed to the Parliament’s chamber.

Parliament office said today, this is due to the current threats of CoViD 19 and the existing declaration of a State of Emergency and national restrictions.

Parliament reconvenes for its 2020 parliamentary session and priority agenda is the national budget for the next financial year.

The House must pass this before July 1..

Due to the existing national restrictions, only members of parliament, parliamentary staff and media would be present, during the Parliament’s state opening.

There will be no invited guests.
