Tonga A have ended their Pacific Challenge Cup campaign on a positive note after dominating Samoa A with five tries in the final round of the competition at the ANZ Stadium in Suva on Saturday. Tonga A had entered the game winless with heavy defeats to Junior Japan and the Fiji Warriors.
Number 8 Petelo Pouhila scored a hat-trick of tries in an impressive man of a match performance. Samoa A were leading 3 – 0 in the first 20 minutes but conceded three tries to trail 3 – 19 at the break.
Tonga A captain Patelesio Oneone said in a press briefing, "I'm so happy for the win this afternoon, it was a tough game, but the Tongan team wanted to play for the win. This is a sport: one team will win and one team will lose. When we finish this tournament and go back to Tonga, we’ll practice and practice and do more training for next year."
Junior Japan won the overall tournament with a decisive 21 – 12 win over the hosts Fiji Warriors on the same day.
