Seven arrested with meth and cannabis in Vaini [1]

Seven people have been arrested in the seizure of 37.44 grams of methamphetamine at a home in Vaini on February 6.
The Tonga Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce supported by the Dog Detector Unit and Tactical Response Group made the arrests at around 10:20pm last night.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Tevita Vailea said today, the taskforce seized 37.44 grams of methamphetamine, 201.67 grams of cannabis and over $3,000 pa’anga cash.
Five men between 28 to 45-years-old, and two women aged 18 and 20 years, all from Vaini, were arrested and will remain in police custody, while the investigation continues.
A/Deputy Commissioner Vailea said that these arrests showed that those who seek to profit from the harm these drugs caused can expect to be targeted by Police.
“Drugs have no place in our community; they destroy the lives of the users, harming our children and our communities. We hope these arrests will bring some reassurance to the community.”
He acknowledged the hard work and dedication of staff who were involved in the seizures, and their commitment to intercepting the supply of these harmful drugs.
