A 30-year-old motorcyclist from Houma remains in critical condition in Vaiola Hospital after his motorbike collided with a u-turning vehicle on Taufa’ahau Road in Fanga yesterday at around 4:00 pm. The horrific collision was captured by a surveillance video at a retail store at the location and has since gone viral on social media.
The driver of the vehicle, a 62-year-old man from Tofoa, was arrested and is being held in custody by Tonga Police.
Contrary to claims on social media that the collision was a hit and run, Police reported today that the driver of the vehicle had parked his car and returned to help the injured man.
The motorcycle burst into flames following the collision.
Monday December 2 was a public holiday in Tonga.
